Common Slicer Software

Understanding Key Parameters

Slicer software offers numerous parameters. Understanding each one is key to achieving high-quality prints. Below are the most essential parameters, grouped by category.

Basic Quality Parameters

Parameter Description Common Range
Layer Height Thickness of each layer. Smaller = smoother surface but slower print 0.08mm–0.32mm; 0.20mm typical (0.4mm nozzle)
Wall Loops Number of outer wall passes. More = stronger 2–4; 2 typical
Top/Bottom Layers Solid layers on top and bottom. Affects sealing and surface quality 3–6; 5 typical
Infill Density Density of internal fill. Higher = stronger and heavier 10%–100%; 15%–20% typical

Speed Parameters

Parameter Description Common Range
Print Speed Nozzle speed during extrusion. Too fast causes poor layer adhesion 50–300mm/s; PLA typically 150–200mm/s
Outer Wall Speed Speed for outer walls. Slower improves surface finish Typically 50%–80% of print speed
Inner Wall Speed Speed for inner walls. Can be increased to save time Usually equal to or slightly below print speed
Infill Speed Speed for internal infill. Can be faster Usually equal to or above print speed
Travel Speed Non-extruding move speed. Faster saves time 200–500mm/s

Temperature Parameters

Parameter Description Common Range
Nozzle Temperature Extruder heating temperature. Set according to filament type PLA: 190–230°C; PETG: 240–260°C; ABS: 240–270°C
Bed Temperature Build plate heating temperature. Improves first-layer adhesion PLA: 45–65°C; PETG: 70–90°C; ABS: 90–110°C
Chamber Temperature Enclosed chamber temperature. Needed for warp-prone materials like ABS ABS: 35–60°C recommended

Cooling Parameters

  • Fan Speed: Cooling fan RPM during printing. PLA needs high speed (80%–100%); ABS typically off or low.
  • First Layer Fan Off: Disable fan on the first layer to ensure proper filament fusion and bed adhesion.
  • Minimum Layer Time: Ensures each layer has enough cooling time to prevent overheating on small models.

Support & Adhesion Parameters

  • Support Type: Tree support or standard support. Tree supports use less material and are easier to remove.
  • Support Threshold: Overhang angle above which supports are auto-generated. Commonly 45°–55°.
  • Brim: Prints a single-layer ring around the first layer to improve adhesion — ideal for warp-prone materials.
  • Raft: Prints a mesh base beneath the model. Good for large footprints or ABS, but affects bottom surface quality.

Advanced Parameters

  • Retraction: Pulls filament back during non-extruding moves to prevent stringing.
  • Coasting: Stops extrusion slightly before the end of a path, using residual pressure to fill the gap and reduce seam bulging.

Importing eSUN Parameter Profiles

eSUN is a well-known 3D printing filament brand that provides officially optimized filament parameter profiles (Profiles) for mainstream slicers. Importing these profiles saves significant tuning time and delivers stable print quality out of the box. The following uses Bambu Studio as an example.

Obtaining eSUN Official Profile Files

  • Visit the eSUN official website (esun3d.com) or follow eSUN's official social media. Navigate to the "Download Center" or "Technical Support" section.
  • Find the parameter pack for your slicer (Bambu Studio / OrcaSlicer / Cura / PrusaSlicer).
  • Select the profile file matching your filament model (e.g., PLA Basic, PLA+, PETG, ABS+) and download it.
  • Profile files are typically in .json format (Bambu Studio/OrcaSlicer) or .inst.cfg format (PrusaSlicer).

Importing Parameters in Bambu Studio

  • Open Bambu Studio. Click "File" → "Import" → "Import Config" in the top menu bar.
  • In the file dialog, locate and select the downloaded eSUN .json file, then click "Open."
  • The software will confirm a successful import. The new filament profile will appear in the filament dropdown on the right panel.
  • Some packs may include both "Process" and "Filament" presets — import them separately.

Verification & Fine-Tuning

  • After import, select the corresponding eSUN filament preset in the right panel. Confirm that nozzle temperature, bed temperature, and fan speed have updated automatically.
  • Print a test model (e.g., temperature tower, retraction test) to verify the profile suits your printer and environment.
  • If minor stringing or warping occurs, fine-tune retraction distance or bed temperature within ±5°C of the official values.
  • Save the adjusted parameters as a custom preset for future use.

Common Issues & Notes

  • Profile file versions must match your software version. Older profiles may have incompatible fields in newer software — always download the latest version.
  • Different filament batches may have slight color and diameter tolerances. If print quality is suboptimal, fine-tune the Flow Rate slightly.
  • eSUN profiles are typically optimized for 0.4mm standard nozzles. Adjust line width if using other nozzle sizes.
  • Importing profiles does not overwrite your existing custom presets — safe to proceed.
