PPS

What is PPS?

PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) is a semi-crystalline high-temperature engineering thermoplastic, rigid and opaque, with a melting point of approximately 280°C. Its molecular backbone consists of alternating phenylene units and sulfide bonds, with the repeating unit -[C₆H₄-S]ₙ-, providing excellent mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and electrical insulation, along with heat resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and inherent flame retardancy, making it an important replacement for metals and thermosetting plastics.

Distinguished from conventional engineering plastics, PPS leverages its unique molecular structure and semi-crystalline properties to deliver outstanding performance in extreme high-temperature, chemical corrosion, and high-temperature insulation applications, and is widely used in automotive, electrical & electronics, home appliances, industrial, and medical manufacturing sectors.

Semi-Crystalline High-Temperature Engineering Plastic

Melting point of approximately 280°C, rigid and opaque, with a long-term working temperature above 200°C, classified as a premium engineering plastic.

Unique Molecular Structure

The molecular backbone consists of alternating phenylene units and sulfide bonds, with the repeating unit -[C₆H₄-S]ₙ-, endowing the material with exceptional thermal and chemical stability.

Comprehensive Performance

Combines mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and electrical insulation with heat resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and inherent flame retardancy.

Metal Replacement Material

An important alternative to metals and thermosetting plastics, suitable for extreme high-temperature and chemical corrosion industrial applications.

Why PPS for 3D Printing?

PPS Printing Tips

Warning PPS has a melting point of 280°C, making processing extremely difficult, requiring 300-350°C high-temperature printing. Ensure your printing equipment supports high-temperature extrusion and take proper safety precautions. Although the material has low hygroscopicity, pre-drying before printing is recommended to avoid affecting print performance.
Parameter / Operation Recommended Notes
Extrusion Temperature 300 - 350°C Requires high-temperature nozzle, adjust based on equipment model
Melting Point ~280°C Semi-crystalline material
Drying Pre-drying required before printing Slight moisture absorption, recommended to dry before use
Storage Sealed moisture-proof storage Low hygroscopicity, but moisture protection still needed

The above parameters are for reference only. Actual settings should be adjusted based on printer model, nozzle, and model geometry. This guide does not replace the official parameter sheet for specific product specifications.
