Standard Resin is the most fundamental and widely used photopolymer material in vat photopolymerization 3D printing (SLA/DLP/LCD). It is composed of acrylate/methacrylate monomers and oligomers combined with photoinitiators. Under 405nm UV light, the photoinitiators decompose to generate free radicals, triggering monomer polymerization and crosslinking that transforms the liquid resin into a solid within seconds.
All three mainstream vat photopolymerization technologies — SLA (laser scanning), DLP (digital light projection) and LCD/MSL (LED array through LCD mask) — use standard resin as their foundational material. Standard resin achieves high-precision forming at 25-100 micron layer heights, delivering smooth surfaces, excellent detail reproduction and relatively low cost, making it the preferred base material for prototyping, figurines, education and jewelry design.

| Feature | Description | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| High brittleness | Limited impact strength and elongation at break, prone to cracking under force | Not suitable for load-bearing or functional testing parts |
| Poor heat resistance | Low heat deflection temperature, prone to softening and deformation at high temperatures | Not suitable for high-temperature applications |
| Weak weather resistance | Prone to yellowing, aging and performance degradation under prolonged UV exposure | Not suitable for long-term outdoor use |
| Post-curing required | UV post-curing is required after printing to reach final strength | Adds post-processing steps and time cost |

Compared with: Water-Washable Resin, High-Temperature Resin
| Dimension | Standard Resin | Water-Washable Resin | High-Temperature Resin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forming Precision & Surface Quality | 25-100 micron layer height, smooth and fine surfaces, excellent detail | Precision comparable to standard resin, similar surface quality | Good precision, but surface slightly inferior to standard resin |
| Mechanical Performance & Toughness | High brittleness, limited impact strength, not suitable for load-bearing parts | Mechanical properties similar to standard resin, comparable brittleness | High rigidity and creep resistance, but toughness also limited |
| Post-Processing Convenience | Requires high-concentration alcohol (IPA) washing + UV post-curing | Can be washed directly with water, no alcohol needed — most convenient post-processing | Requires alcohol washing + UV post-curing, same workflow as standard resin |
| Heat Resistance | Low heat deflection temperature, prone to softening at high temperatures | Heat resistance similar to standard resin, not high-temperature resistant | High heat deflection temperature (200°C+), specifically designed for high-temperature applications |
| Cost Positioning | Moderate price, high cost-effectiveness, suitable for batch prototyping | Slightly higher price than standard resin, low post-processing cost | Higher price, targeting professional engineering applications |
| Application Scenarios | Prototyping, figurines, education, jewelry, architectural models | Education, desktop, alcohol-free post-processing scenarios | Injection molds, high-temperature verification, hot air duct prototypes |
| Parameter / Action | Recommended | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Layer Height | 0.025 - 0.100 mm | Higher precision requires smaller layer height and longer print time |
| Normal Exposure Time | 6 - 15 seconds | Fine-tune based on resin color and device power |
| Bottom Exposure Time | 20 - 40 seconds | Ensures first layers firmly adhere to the build platform |
| Bottom Exposure Layers | 4 - 8 layers | Adjust based on platform size and model base area |
| Ambient Temperature | 20 - 30°C | Low temperatures increase resin viscosity, affecting forming |
| Washing Method | High-concentration alcohol (IPA ≥ 90%) soak for 3 - 5 minutes | Ultrasonic cleaning yields better results; air-dry before post-curing |
| Post-Curing | UV light for 5 - 15 minutes | Adjust based on model size and wall thickness to ensure full curing |
| Vat Maintenance | Filter back into bottle after use, store away from light | Prevent cured debris from entering the next print, affecting forming quality |
Settings should be adjusted according to your printer model, resin batch and model geometry. This guide does not replace the official parameter sheet for a specific grade.
