GF Enhancement

What is GF Enhancement?

Glass Fiber (GF) Enhancement is a advanced composite modification technique where chopped glass microfibers are uniformly compounded into standard polymer matrices (such as PLA, Nylon, ABS, or PETG) to significantly upgrade structural and thermal capabilities.

Composite Matrix

Short glass fibers (typically 15% to 25% by weight) serve as microscopic structural reinforcement within the thermoplastic polymer base.

Interfacial Bonding

Specialized surface coupling agents bond glass fibers firmly to polymer chains, facilitating efficient mechanical load transfer.

Fiber Alignment

During 3D printing extrusion, micro-fibers align along toolpaths, forming a rigid internal skeleton within the printed part.

Dimensional Precision

Fiber loading restricts thermal contraction during cooling, virtually eliminating warping and shrinkage in large-scale prints.

Why Glass Fiber?

Glass fiber reinforcement strikes an optimal balance between exceptional mechanical performance, structural durability, chemical resistance, and cost-efficiency.

01

High Modulus & Stiffness

Significantly increases flexural and tensile modulus, preventing structural deflection under heavy continuous loads.

02

High Impact Resistance

Absorbs kinetic impact energy effectively through microscopic fiber-matrix energy dissipation mechanisms.

03

Superior Creep Resistance

Prevents long-term mechanical deformation under continuous stress or elevated operational temperatures.

04

Low Thermal Expansion

Drastically reduces Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE), ensuring exceptional dimensional fidelity across wide temperature ranges.

05

Electrical Insulation

Unlike carbon fiber composites, glass fiber maintains non-conductive electrical insulation properties, ideal for electronic housings.

06

Cost-Effective Upgrade

Delivers engineering-grade structural performance at a more economical price point compared to high-end carbon fiber materials.

eSUN GF Enhancement Technology

eSUN leverages proprietary compounding, fiber dispersant, and extrusion technologies to create glass fiber reinforced filaments that combine ease of printing with rugged engineering qualities.

In-house Micro-Fiber Dispersant Formulation

Standard glass fiber filaments often suffer from fiber agglomeration or severe nozzle clogging. eSUN utilizes high-shear twin-screw extrusion technology coupled with proprietary compatibilizers to achieve uniform fiber dispersion and optimal aspect ratio retention.

Patented Interfacial Coupling & Low-Warping Process

eSUN's modified chemical coupling treats the glass surface to maximize chemical affinity with polymers like Nylon (PA), PLA, and ABS. This reduces internal stress during cooling, minimizing warping without sacrificing layer-to-layer adhesion strength.

Performance Enhancement

By incorporating engineered glass fiber micro-structures, standard 3D printing polymers experience dramatic improvements in key physical and thermal dimensions.

Performance Metric Unreinforced Polymer eSUN GF Reinforced Engineering Benefit
Flexural Modulus Baseline (1.0x) 2.0x – 3.2x Increase Resists bending, sagging, and structural deflection under heavy loading.
Impact Strength Moderate Up to 150% Increase Absorbs heavy mechanical shocks and dynamic impacts without fracturing.
Heat Deflection Temp (HDT) Standard limits +15°C to +40°C Higher Sustains functional structural integrity at elevated ambient temperatures.
Dimensional Shrinkage 0.8% – 2.0% < 0.2% Minimal Eliminates corner warping and guarantees precise fitments for large parts.
Surface Texture Glossy / visible lines Matte Technical Finish Conceals layer lines, delivering a clean, professional factory-like appearance.

GF vs. CF (Glass Fiber vs. Carbon Fiber)

Understanding the differences between Glass Fiber (GF) and Carbon Fiber (CF) composite filaments empowers proper material selection based on mechanical and electrical needs.

Property / Feature Glass Fiber Reinforced (GF) Carbon Fiber Reinforced (CF)
Electrical Conductivity Non-Conductive (Electrical Insulator) Conductive / Semi-conductive
Impact Strength & Toughness Higher toughness & impact absorption Ultra-stiff, but higher brittleness under shock
Tensile Modulus / Rigidity High rigidity Ultra-high rigidity (Maximum stiffness)
Color Availability Natural, White, Light Gray, Matte Black Predominantly Dark Gray / Matte Black
Cost & Affordability Economical & Cost-effective Premium price point
Signal Transmission RF / Wi-Fi / Radio friendly (Non-shielding) Attenuates RF / Electromagnetic signals

Key Selection Insight

Choose GF (Glass Fiber) when electrical insulation, radio transparency (RF friendly), high impact toughness, custom colors, or cost savings are key priorities. Choose CF (Carbon Fiber) when absolute minimum weight and maximum flexural modulus are paramount.

Printing & Processing Technology

Due to the abrasive nature of short glass fibers, specific hardware configurations and parameter settings ensure seamless printing and long tool life.

Hardened Nozzle Requirement

Standard brass nozzles wear out quickly due to the abrasive micro-fibers in GF filaments. Always use a hardened steel, ruby, or tungsten carbide nozzle (minimum 0.4mm or 0.6mm diameter) to prevent nozzle erosion and flow inconsistency.

Parameter ePLA-GF ePA-GF eABS-GF
Nozzle Temp (°C) 190 – 220 °C 260 – 290 °C 240 – 270 °C
Bed Temp (°C) 45 – 60 °C 70 – 90 °C 80 – 100 °C
Enclosure Requirement Not required Recommended / Required Required
Drying Condition 50°C for 4h (if humid) 70–80°C for 8h (Mandatory) 65–70°C for 4–6h
